The 1st Thai Arts and Culture Centre in Cumbria opened its doors on 17th December in Penrith

A new Thai Arts and Cultural Centre  opened its door for the 1st time in the history of Cumbria in Penrith. The Chairman of the Eden District Council, Councillor Keith Morgan was the chief guest of the opening ceremony to be held at the Centre’s premises in Castle Gate, Poet’s Walk, Penrith on 17th December at 1:00 pm.'s picture

Challenges remain in ensuring minority rights respected globally, says Ban Ki-moon

27 November 2012 – Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today reaffirmed the commitment of the United Nations to addressing the concerns of minorities worldwide, while noting that many challenges remain in ensuring that their rights are respected.

“The United Nations has a crucial role to play in minority protection,” Mr. Ban said in a videomessage to the UN Forum on Minority Issues, which is meeting in Geneva today and tomorrow.'s picture

Celebrating Our Faiths

On Saturday 17th November at the South Lakes Foyer, a gathering of at least 50 people shared aspects of their faiths. The Foyer's main room was filled to capacity with 16 large tables - each "stall" represented a coming together of the different faiths in South Lakeland. 

The stalls covered many different viewpoints, with each working together with great interest and respect in what was covered in the displays. 


Equality Cumbria is an umbrella organisation that encompasses a number of different charities based in Cumbria. Together they tackle inequality in race, religion, sexuality and more.
